The official start of the Mövenpick Hotel Group took place in 1973. 1966
The first step in the hospitality business was already taken in 1966 with the construction of the Jolie Ville Motor Inn in Adliswil near Zurich. The official start of the Mövenpick Hotel Group then came with the opening of two hotels near Zurich Airport and in Regensdorf.
1943
When Ueli Prager - the founder of Mövenpick - was looking for a name for his first restaurant, which opened in Zurich in 1948, he went for a walk along the shores of Lake Zurich and was taken by the sight of a seagull ("Möwe" in German) which elegantly picked up its delicacies in mid-flight. This idea gave wings to a fruitful concept: affordable gastronomy of the highest quality without waiting times. The Mövenpick Group has remained faithful to this vision until the present day.
