Konopiste castle was originally founded as a gothic castle in 13th century. This castle is one of the most interesting in central Europe due to its rich collection of art covering Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque and modern works. The most important and famous owner was Franz Ferdinand d'Este, who gave the chateau its current appearance.

The Baroque Chateau Jemniste was built in the years 1720-25. After a fire in 1745 it was renovated in the rococo style. The historical interiors of the castle show features from the 17th-19th century. The main hall and castle chapel are decorated with wall paintings by F. A. Scheffler and V. Reiner. The whole castle is surrouned by an English park.

The tour to the Terezin Fortress includes visits to the Memorial of National Martyrdom, the Small Fortress and the Ghetto Museum. The Terezin Fortress is a memorial of the concentration camp run by the national socialists during the occupation of Czechoslovakia and a place of suffering for over 90,000 prisoners. More than 35,000 Jews lost their lives in the camp’s ghetto.
