Petra Nabatean Destoverview

Petra lies about 3.5 hours south of modern Amman, about 2 hours north of Aqaba, on the edge of the mountainous desert of the Wadi Araba. The city is surrounded by towering hills of rust-coloured sandstone, which gave the city some natural protection against invaders. Located only 10 minutes from the entrance to the Petra site, the Mövenpick Nabatean Castle Hotel is set on a hillside at an altitude of 1,400 metres with spectacular views over the Great Rift Valley.

Sightseeing

  • Petra Historic Site/Building

A legacy of the Nabateans, the site of this magnificent city was lost to the world for over 1,000 years until its rediscovery in AD 1812. Carved into rose-coloured stone, Petra is one of Jordan’s national treasures.
