Located off the east coast of Africa, this tropical island of 1,800 square kilometres is bordered by 150 km of coastline almost entirely surrounded by a lagoon.

The average temperature during the summer months (October to May) is between 28 and 34°C, while the temperature of the water varies between 22 and 25 °C. The subtropical winter months (June to September) are as beautiful as summer in Europe.

Approximately 1 million inhabitants of different origins live peacefully together, creating a melting pot of cultures, religions and languages. Sugar cane, the textile industry and tourism represent the three major sources of the Mauritian economy.
