Located in the western region of Saudi Arabia, Makkah is the holiest city on earth to Muslims. It is the birthplace of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), and pilgrimage to the city is one of the Five Pillars of Islam required of all able adult Muslims at least once in their lifetime. The arrival of close to 3 million pilgrims each year during the last month of the Islamic calendar is awe inspiring. Whilst in Makkah, pilgrims also make the trip to Madinah to visit the Prophet’s tomb. 

The religious centre of Makkah is the Haram Mosque (al Masjid al Haram) and the well of Zamzam.
