The Shaft "Zollverein" was built in 1932. In 1986 it was crippled. Today, however, the shaft is a famous industrial memorial to mining history.

Garden City "Margaretenhöhe"

This idyllic district was endowed by Margarethe Krupp for the marriage of her daughter in 1906. The houses were built for workers and employees and look all different due to overgrown bowfronts, swung gables and pilasters. You can enjoy a guided tour through the quarter and visit a show flat.

Mövenpick Hotel Essen - Villa Hügel

Villa Hügel

The mansion is situated in a park with 28 hectares and offers a view over Lake Baldeneysee. It was built by Alfred Krupp in 1873 and inhabited by the Krupp family until 1945. The "Small house" of the Villa features an exhibition about the history of the Krupp family. The "Big house" of the Villa houses art exhibitions.
