The Great Pyramids of Giza

The Pyramids were built around 2,650 BC as tombs for the preservation of the bodies of dead Egyptian kings. The Ancient Egyptians believed in resurrection and immortality, and thus built these pyramids. The three Pyramids of Giza are surrounded by several smaller pyramids and hundreds of tombs of the royal family, nobility and other high-ranking people.

Saqqara

Saqqara is the oldest cemetery in Egypt and lies on a desert plateau. On top lies the step-pyramid built by Imhotep about 4,500 years ago. In front of the pyramid he built a wooden box with two peepholes, through which one can see a life-size painting of the statue of King Djoser. The object was to allow the king’s "Ka" or life spirit to communicate with the outside world.
