Essen Cathedral

Visit the Cathedral of Essen, which has emerged from the Essen M√ľnster with the founding of the Ruhr diocese in 1958. The first collegiate church was built here in the 9th Century, the present building is a Gothic hall church, built from 1275 on. A special highlight is the Cathedral treasury with its golden Madonna, the oldest fully sculptural figure of Mary north of the Alps.
